  • About the Role

    Are you an experienced Lawyer looking to make the move into Risk & Best Practice? We are proactively growing our Risk & Best Practice team to deliver the firm's Risk and compliance service.


    You will work closely with the Head of Risk & Best Practice to provide commercial and legal support to the firm, ensuring the Firm’s risk and compliance knowledge, controls and procedures are and remain effective and robust, and to advise the Firm on risk and compliance matters.


    This role can be based from any of our offices and will require regular travel to other sites - Bath, Oxford, Swindon, London.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Assist with the management of the Firm’s complaints and claims in a timely manner, advising on the merits of both and liaising with relevant internal and external stakeholders, (eg insurers, Legal Ombudsman). Provide regular complaints and claims management information;
    • Assist with the management of the firm’s GDPR compliance, including drafting Data Processing Agreements, managing Subject Access Requests and advising on matters of confidentiality and privilege;
    • Review the Firm’s contracts and retainer terms (eg Engagement Letter precedents, Terms of Business, contracts of insurance, contracts with suppliers and other third parties);
    • Provide legal advice in relation to risk and compliance matters (e.g. money laundering and sanctions, bribery and corruption, FATCA and FCA regulation to the extent it applies to the Firm);
    • Advise on queries arising out of the SRA Handbook, including the firms authorisation and practising requirements;
    • Monitor legal/regulatory developments and manage their implementation within the Firm;
    • Assist with drafting and reviewing the Firm’s policies and procedures to maintain compliance;
    • Promote and encourage professional best practice and innovative business solutions to encourage compliance with regulatory requirements;
    • Assist with enquiries from the SRA or other agencies as required;
    • Assist with the Firm’s Learning and Development programme in the design and delivery of Firm-wide compliance training; assisting with the update of the Team’s intranet page;
    • Lead on ad-hoc compliance projects as required.

    About You

    Skills & Experience:

    • A qualified solicitor or legal executive- Essential
    • Post-qualified experience within Litigation (either in private practice or in-house)- Essential
    • Experience of dealing with risk & compliance- desirable
    • Strong working knowledge of the relevant laws, regulations and codes of conduct applicable to the operation of a law firm, including the SRA handbook- Essential
    • Excellent attention to detail- Essential
    • Strong analytical and numerical skills - Essential
    • Excellent organisational capability with the ability to prioritise effectively- Essential
    • Commercially aware with a focus on implementing risk and compliance controls within a business- Essential
